Project Vastra is a student-led nonprofit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of underprivileged communities in India. Our mission is to collect ethnic clothing and donate these garments directly to those in need, ensuring they reach the right places and are utilized effectively. We believe in the power of sustainable practices and community-driven efforts to uplift individuals and families through access to culturally significant clothing.
At Project Vastra, we envision a world where everyone has access to essential clothing that not only meets their basic needs but also celebrates their cultural identity. We strive to foster a sense of community, compassion, and connection among our volunteers and the recipients of our donations.

In celebration of Diwali 2022, Project Vastra organized a successful clothing donation drive, uniting the community of San Ramon to make a meaningful impact. We collected gently used ethnic clothing from local donors and sent these garments to underserved communities in India, ensuring that those in need could experience the joy of the festive season.
The donated clothing was distributed across three different organizations:
Ekalavya Foundation: Serving villages across India.
Good Samaritan Children Orphanage: home to children aged 5 to 16. Our donations provided the children with traditional clothing, allowing them a sense of cultural pride and dignity.
Government Primary School, Ajit nagri, Malout: We extended our support to the students connected to this primary school, helping them with clothing that celebrates their cultural heritage.
Through this drive, we were able to reach orphans, underserved children, and adults in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, bringing them joy and comfort for the Diwali season. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the generous donors and volunteers who made this possible. Together, we’re creating positive change, one garment at a time.
With tremendous support from the communities in San Ramon, Santa Clara, and Pleasanton, Project Vastra collected over 1,200 pieces of ethnic clothing for individuals of all ages. This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local volunteers, including members of the Girl Scouts, who dedicated their time to hand-sort, organize, and carefully package each piece.
In total, we packed and shipped 20 boxes of clothing to India, where they arrived safely in Hyderabad. From there, these garments have been distributed to various organizations, ensuring that the clothing reaches those who need it most. We’re grateful for the outpouring of generosity from our communities and the hard work of our volunteers, all of whom have contributed to spreading warmth and cultural pride to underserved communities in India.
